The City Council has gained a contract to remove the boat from a roundabout in the Doña Inés urbanization. The "Felipe y Francisca" has been located there for 20 years. It was placed around the municipal elections of 2003. At first it seemed like a good idea. But time has passed, without the maintenance that the ship owner, skipper and fishermen proudly gave the ship in its day to preserve its robust wooden hull. Official records indicate that this ship was still in service in 1994. It was anchored to the ground by several brick walls that keep it standing. Today the state of abandonment of the ship, and because of the danger that it poses for local children who use the ship as a playground and to prevent it from collapsing, the Department of Works and Services has just contracted for its removal to authorized landfill. The residents of Doña Inés will be waiting for the innovative landscape solution that the municipality will to give to the roundabout in the coming months.
